How TO Fix A Rubbing Door

There are a few reasons why doors start sagging and rubbing or becoming misaligned, this issue can cause some inconvenience, mainly if it affects your front door and you have no way of locking it, it's not much comfort either if the bedroom or bathroom door won't close. Luckily we've been fixing doors for many years and developed solutions to deal with these issues pronto. Below is just one solution that can be applied.

1. First, check your hinges to see if they are functioning correctly or if they need replacing.

2. Then check for rubbing, floor marks are always a good indicator the door has dropped.

3. Have a look at the frame, both sides, and top for any scrape like markings.

4. CContinue to open and close the door, this process will make sure all the problem areas are identified.

5. For this example the door happens to be rubbing on the bottom, so that's where our focus will be.

6. If the door has excessive rubbing begin to remove the screws from the hinges, to cut around 5mm off the bottom.

7. Once cutting is complete reattach the door and put some tape on the bottom on both sides.

8. Get some sandpaper around 40 grit and start rubbing back the edges, this will smooth out all the base after the cut.

9. Test the door to make sure it's operating correctly, simply open and close it fully to make sure there's no rubbing.

10. Proceed to remove the tape from the bottom of the door.

11. If required paint the bottom, Most fixes we do will not need sanding or painting as our cuts are usually accurate.
